Grace is Gone tells the story of Stanley, (played by Cusask), who at the beginning of the film finds out that his wife was just killed in Iraq. Instead of breaking the news to his two daughters, he tries to distract them by taking them on a road trip. It's interesting, funny, and heart-breaking, and I couldn't recommend it more strongly.
