I'll have to see this.  I was never in combat during my time in the Army but I knew what i signed up for.  Being part of a tank crew there were never any questions about  what we were  supposed to do.   There are no peace time applications for a 63 ton M1A2 Main Battle Tank.  At the same time we practiced by shooting other tank sized silhouettes and we never gave any consideration that there was a crew of 3 or 4 in the opposing vehicle that we were shooting at. We were just knocking out another tank.  It was like we were shooting cans as we did when were kids only we were using a 120mm cannon with a high velocity depleted uranium sabot round instead of a pellet or BB gun.  that may sound cold but that's the way it was.  The people I knew that were in the first Gulf War seemed to come back unaffected at the time but that was a very different scenario than what they have on their hands now.  Like i said I'll have to see this.

Side note:  The very few soldiers who were open about their conscientious objector status usually weren't around too long.  They were usually given a transfer to a unit that was not a front line combat unit and then summarily given a discharge.
