Saw Juno and Revolver last night. They were back to back screenings, which can be exhausting, (though at Sundance I often do back-to-back-to-back screenings), and I think my experience at the second screening may have suffered becuase of it...
Juno was indie-tastic. A great, honest, and messy story with a stellar cast and talented director, (Jason Reitman of Thank You For Smoking). Jason Bateman and Michael Cera give awesome and hilarious performances, and Ellen Page carries the movie effortlessly as Juno. And then there's JK Simmons, (who's one of those actors that you always recognize, but never learn their name), who gives a great performance as Juno's Dad. I don't even want to say anything else- just put this one on your list. Let's teach the movie studios that you don't need explosions and Tom Cruise to sell a movie!
And then there's Revolver. Okay, to be totally honest, I fell asleep for the first twenty minutes of this movie. I was pretty confused after that, but I think the guy next to me was confused too. It was directed Guy Ritchie, (Madonna's husband), who's had a spotty track record, (remember Swept Away?). There are some interesting performances, but I'm going to have to do some serious research before I interview Vincent Pastore for this tomorrow morning...
I was initially booted from the Juno press day today, but I begged my way back in. I'm not going to get to interview everybody, (no Jennifer Garner or Michael Cera for me), but I will get to talk to Ellen Page, Jason Reitman, and Diablo Cody. I'm especially excited about talking to Jason after reading his blog.
