LA Next Week

Next week, I'll be back in LA with Chris and it looks like we will be extremely busy.  Aside from continuing our documentary about Jason Falkner, who is starting to record a new record, we have booked time in a recording studio so we can bring in a number of up-and-coming LA bands for interviews and live performances.

So far, we've got the following acts lined up:

-- The Breakups - (pictured at right) one of my favorite bands at the moment, they play smart "powerless" pop.  And you have to love a band who's myspace URL is "thebreakupssuck".

-- Le Switch - really gaining momentum in LA, this group's sound is all over the map and they play everything with passion.  See the video for "Crazy" below:

-- Army Navy - catchy and infectious, this band will transport you to a sunny place.

-- The Karabal Nightlife - I stumbled across this band only recently but fell in love with their sound.  They remind me a bit of Dear John Letters.  I'll be curious to see what they are like in the studio.

-- The Flying Tourbillon Orchestra:  boy-girl vocals on bouncy melodies.  See sample video below:

-- Frankel - April and I did a segment with Frankel (Michael Orendy) on our last trip, but the video quality was terrible (not enough light), so I decided not to run it.  We'll get something good this time.  He has a unique sound that lives in the singer-songwriter mold of Randy Newman, with a dash of Grandaddy thrown in for good measure.

-- The Bentleys -- outstanding, occasionally quirky pop.  See sample video below:

-- Dios (Malos) --  One of my favorite bands.  These guys are simply brilliant.  Check out the video for "All Said + Done":

Also still hoping to get the Miniature Tigers.  Check out their "Viking Heart" video below.

New band confirmed: Hazelden.  They have one video:
